A decree was signed this morning by Gladis de León, the Councilor for Public Security and Emergencies, leading to the closure of access to Benijo beach due to minor landslides that have been detected in recent weeks.
The Municipal Council clarifies that this precautionary measure will include continuous monitoring of the situation and has also initiated the assessment of various technical reports to evaluate both the slope risk and the necessary actions to be taken.
The City Council’s Infrastructure Department states that urgent analysis is underway to determine the initial technical steps to address this issue.
Authorities have reported recent minor material falls, suggesting potential instability in certain parts of the slope overlooking the beach. Alerts from the Spanish Red Cross, responsible for rescue and lifeguard services in the area, prompted the Santa Cruz City Council to make this decision. Although the current situation may not be critical, conducting relevant studies and implementing precautionary measures is essential.
Furthermore, warning signs will be placed in the beach access zone to alert passers-by about the situation. Safety and emergency personnel stationed in the Anaga mountain range will also undertake these informational tasks for the public, urging everyone to act responsibly and avoid unnecessary risks.
