The glorious tree, standing tall for over six decades at block 10 of Arona Street in the La Salud Alto district, is facing its end. The Santa Cruz City Council’s Urban Discipline service has instructed the locals to swiftly chop down the tree before the 9th of July, citing an imminent risk of collapse. Failing removal by the residents, the Parks and Gardens Department will step in to carry out the task.
The department’s decision, obtained by DIARIO DE AVISOS, stems from a report commissioned by the Public Services Department to Árbol Investigación y Gestión. The report reveals that, despite a solid base structure that reduces the risk of toppling, the tree exhibits a high level of infection in its lower part, posing a threat of collapse along the buttresses. Therefore, the study strongly recommends felling the tree as a preventive measure.
In light of this analysis, Disciplina Urbanística has communicated its ruling, emphasising that as the tree is situated on private land, the community of property owners is mandated by the Canary Islands Land Law to ensure the maintenance and structural integrity of the premises, including security, universal accessibility, and legal embellishments. Additionally, they are required to carry out any necessary works for enhancing quality and sustainability.
