Granadilla de Abona brings summer to life with Sansofé 2024. The Department of Culture and Festivals is hosting over 60 free activities starting today and running until 31 August. First Deputy Mayor, Óscar Delgado Melo, highlights that Granadilla de Abona “enters this summer period with a bang with a different offer where everyone will be welcome, from the youngest to the oldest in the family.” Delgado Melo confirmed that El Médano will once again host the Windsurfing World Championship this year, specifically from 4 to 11 August.
The opening will take place today with the 33rd Canary Islands Jazz & More, featuring Idafe Pérez Quinteto and Harold López, at El Médano square, starting at 8:30 pm. The rest of the music initiatives will be led by timple player José Luis Hernández, the José Reyes Martín Cultural Society, the 13th Scenic Notebooks Festival, the 10th Can Reggae Festival, the 21st Ten Samba International Festival, the 29th Folklore Show of the Villages, the Parranda Chasnera and, as a novelty, a youth arts meeting called Buma Fest. The closing event will feature singer-songwriter Pedro Guerra on Saturday 31 August.
In addition to the events in the coastal area, various children’s activities have also been scheduled in different population centres for the little ones in the family, accompanied by puppet shows and animation parties, aiming to bring culture to all places and all audiences. Additionally, one of the most popular events, the Folklore Show of the Villages, will bring the dance and music of other world villages to the town of Granadilla, with invited groups from Mexico and Taiwan this year. This event, which will also feature Canarian folklore and local groups, will be closed by Los Sabandeños.
There will also be sports events such as the El Médano Night Trail, the 11th Monographic of the Canarian Presa dog breed, or the Ichasagua Festival, featuring displays of native sports and performances by singer-songwriters, among other things. Other well-established initiatives include the Summer Sensations on Friday 26 of this month, and the Burger Fest on 16, 17, and 18 August, at El Médano square.
