An individual has been apprehended in the Tenerife town of Vilaflor for allegedly starting 15 fires of different kinds, which are believed to have caused significant damage to public furniture, agricultural lands, and forested areas, resulting in estimated losses of 55,000 euros.
The arrest was carried out by officers of the Civil Guard’s Nature Protection Service (Seprona) during an operation in the La Escalona district of Vilaflor.
The Civil Guard stated that the 15 fires were set in close proximity to each other, within a maximum distance of one kilometer, all during the early morning hours (between approximately 05:45 and 06:30) and within a short time frame (from August 2023 to June of the current year).
According to the statement, the thorough investigation conducted by specialised Civil Guard agents led to the gathering of ample evidence to identify, locate, and apprehend the suspect.
During the arrest, several items related to potential arson were found in his possession: four lighters, four flammable sprays, three knives, two cutters, a multi-purpose knife, a wrench, and a sum of 5,000 euros in cash.
