Today, a cayuco reached the shores of El Hierro, carrying one deceased individual and 55 survivors, as per reports from the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (Cecoes) 1-1-2 and the Red Cross.
The vessel docked at the port of La Restinga just before half past eight in the morning without requiring any intervention from Maritime Rescue, with its passengers including five women and two children.
The cayuco was spotted by the Civil Guard to the south of El Hierro, and the people aboard were attended to by medical personnel from the SUC and Primary Care.
Among the passengers of the canoe was the lifeless body of a young man, and five others had to be transported to Ntra. Sra. de los Reyes Hospital.
This morning also saw the erection of a tent in Puerto Naos, Arrecife (Lanzarote), which will serve as temporary accommodation for migrant minors, an urgent response to the overcrowding in existing facilities.
