SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 5 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
In the season that has just concluded, a total of 26,130 individuals have taken part in activities organised by the Education and Social Sector of Auditorio de Tenerife, a project supported by the Culture and Education departments of the Cabildo de Tenerife.
The proposal included shows for schools and social centres, performances in classrooms, mediation activities, online meetings with teachers, teaching guides, educational resources, and educational and technical guided tours. This initiative ran from October 2023 to June 2024.
José Carlos Acha, the Councillor for Culture of the Cabildo, deems the work carried out by Tenerife Auditorium in this sector as vital: “The attraction of new audiences to our proposed activities is essential. To accomplish this, we engage with individuals of all ages, targeting educational institutions and social groups.”
Acha highlighted the diverse nature of the proposal, showcasing the variety of shows organised by Tenerife Auditorium. He emphasised that the initiatives led by the Education and Social Sector do not only take place within the Auditorium premises but are also extended to educational institutions’ facilities.
Educational concerts and shows provided to schools and social centres on the island and held at Auditorio de Tenerife amounted to 29 performances, with a total of 17,921 attendees. Particularly noteworthy were the performances by the Tenerife Symphony such as El circo de don Nicanor for Infants, Cuentan las voces for Primary, and Abemón for Secondary, as well as the annual family production by Ópera de Tenerife, El niño y los sortilegios by Maurice Ravel.
The Theatre in School programme involved a public call for theatre, dance, and musical companies. Following a selection process by a committee of experts, a catalogue was finalised. This year, 11 companies presented their shows and processes to educational and social centres on the island, resulting in 90 performances and a dozen creative sessions across 100 centres in 24 municipalities, enjoyed by 5,608 spectators.
The Theatre Schools programme spanned nine municipalities on the island, catering to different age groups and instructing 174 students. On the other hand, Teatro Aficionado, which promotes this art among cultural associations, featured over 25 performances by nine groups on the island.
The artistic and social project Danza en Comunidad marked its tenth anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, a meeting was held at the Auditorium, attended by a hundred professionals and groups involved in the programme’s activities over the past decade.
The educational guided tours were conducted for the second consecutive season, offering a cross-curricular educational activity involving a training and information process for the public during school hours across all levels. The aim was to foster independent and critical thinking among students and this initiative reached 428 students. Additionally, technical guided tours were conducted, introducing the building to 88 students.
