SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 4 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has requested a 13-year prison sentence for a man who attacked his ex-partner during a dance event at the Guamasa community centre in La Laguna, last June.
As per the accusation, the 68-year-old man had been in a five-year romantic relationship with the 72-year-old victim and did not take their breakup well. He decided to confront her at the event to persuade her.
Upon finding her with another man, he menacingly told her “now you’ll see what a real man is” before fetching a 13-centimetre knife from his car. He then entered the dance and attacked her from behind, stabbing her in the neck.
Three bystanders managed to intervene, overpower the man, who is currently in custody without bail, and disarm him.
The victim required immediate medical attention including stitches and emergency surgery, resulting in her being incapacitated for 35 days, with five of those days spent in the hospital. The incident left her with a seven-centimetre scar on her neck and post-traumatic stress disorder.
The prosecution views the incident as an attempted murder and is also seeking a 15-year restraining order forbidding the attacker from coming within 500 metres of the victim, as well as payment of a compensation of 13,580 euros.
The trial is scheduled to take place next Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
