SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 3 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The unanimous decision of the Tenerife Metropolitan strike committee is to enhance, starting from September, the strike activities that have been ongoing since February 9th. New schedules will be introduced during autumn which will impact peak hours, alongside a revised calendar of protests.
The workers have opted for these actions due to what they see as a lack of cooperation from Metropolitano de Tenerife management. They believe that the management has been taking advantage of the employees’ willingness to negotiate by gradually reducing the strike hours to minimise disruptions to this vital public service.
The committee accuses the management of undermining mediation efforts, causing unnecessary delays in decision-making, reneging on previous agreements, disregarding agreed schedules and plans, spreading misleading information among the staff, instigating conflicts between unions, discrediting the democratically elected worker representatives, misusing disciplinary measures during negotiations, and consistently acting in bad faith and outside the provisions set in the Collective Agreement.
According to the strike committee, “it has become clear over time that Transport Minister Eulalia García seems uninterested in promptly resolving the issues that have been affecting Metropolitano de Tenerife employees since her appointment, potentially leading to an enduring conflict with the management.”
To prevent the situation from worsening irreversibly in September and avoid a detrimental impact on the public service, the strike committee has decided, by unanimous vote, to limit meetings to the technical committee consisting of seven members during July and August. However, starting from September, all twelve members will convene, preceded by a preparatory day.
