SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 3 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Carmen Hernández, the vice president of Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-BC), strongly criticised and condemned the recent allegations made by former Health Minister of the Canary Islands Government, Teresa Cruz Oval, against NC-BC President Román Rodríguez, accusing him of workplace “harassment”.
According to Hernández, Cruz Oval’s actions, which occurred after four years, seem to be more of a vindictive move coinciding with a “smear campaign” aimed at weakening the organisation and its leaders.
The regional deputy firmly stated that the decision to dismiss Cruz Oval in March 2020 lay with Executive President Ángel Víctor Torres. Hernández was confident that Torres would never tolerate any behaviour that disrespected members of the Government.
Hernández also praised Román Rodríguez’s leadership qualities, highlighting his ability to recognise and appreciate people’s values and qualities equally, regardless of their political affiliations.
Rodríguez apparently only interacted with Cruz Oval during the weekly Governing Council meetings held between mid-July 2019 and March 25, 2020.
These Governing Council meetings, as Hernández stressed, involved confidential discussions, and members were required to maintain confidentiality even after leaving their positions, as mandated by Law 4/2023 of March 23 governing the Presidency and Government of the Canary Islands.
“We are confident that the Governing Council meetings, like other institutions, were conducted with proper decorum, respecting diverse opinions. If not, Ángel Víctor Torres would have intervened,” Hernández stated in a press release.
Hernández noted that Cruz Ovalle was dismissed by Ángel Víctor Torres on March 25, 2020, shortly after President Pedro Sánchez declared a state of emergency in Spain due to the Covid19 health crisis.
Therefore, Carmen Hernández criticised Cruz Oval’s attempts to attribute her departure from the Executive to Rodríguez.
