Milestone reached for Los Silos as it will soon boast a new auditorium, Alfonso García Ramos, a cultural infrastructure that will be fitting for the northern municipality. The municipality of Los Silos has awarded the construction contract for 3.2 million Euros to the consortium of companies Falisa and Hernández Bello. The project is scheduled to be completed in 18 months and work will commence immediately, in the coming weeks.
The auditorium in Los Silos will no longer be a small outdoor space in the town centre with a wooden-covered stage. It will be transformed into a roofed building, shaped like a container, clad in copper and with a large base of natural stone that harmonises with the nearby ravine.
“The concept revolves around a copper box, embedded in the historical surroundings, creating a large window that emits light when the lobby is illuminated and offers views of the nearby mountains from the interior, connecting it with nature,” explains the project designed by Daute Architecture.

“This element reminds us of cinema projectors, which lead us to discover a fantastic world, the large window to culture,” details the presentation of this infrastructure, adding: “The building is conceived as a landmark integrated into the historical ensemble and as a reference point for the region.”
Carmen Luz Baso, Mayor of Los Silos, expresses about the new auditorium Alfonso García Ramos “will address the deficiencies that the municipality currently faces in terms of cultural facilities”. “At last, Los Silos will have a decent auditorium,” emphasises the Mayor.
The exterior of the building plays a crucial role in the project. The cultural infrastructure will not occupy the entire plot, leaving an open space that will blend with Calvario Square via a staircase and a ramp.

The proposed open space is designed in a way that will create a staircase resembling bleachers, allowing the exterior space to be used as a meeting place and for outdoor performances. The lobby (a unique two-story space) will feature a large window offering views of the Teno Massif mountains.
In addition, the seating capacity will be 400 people. The new auditorium is also notable for its accessibility in all public areas. Concerning the budget, of the 3.2 million Euros required for this new Alfonso García Ramos auditorium, the Tenerife Island Council will contribute 95%, while the Los Silos City Council will provide the remaining 5%.
