A portion of the seaside at The Theresies was compelled to shut down on Tuesday due to it being unfit for swimming. This closure specifically affects the central area near access point 8 of the beach.

Per information from the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council’s Municipal Operational Coordination Center (Cecopal), the decision to close off the area was made due to unusual contamination levels in the water, prompting the hoisting of the red flag in that zone.

These findings have been labelled as “short-term” by the Sanitary Inspection Service and Laboratory of the Tenerife Health Area within the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS). The municipal Environmental Sustainability and Health department has been notified of the situation and has deemed this specific segment unsuitable for swimming.

The City Council assures that necessary steps have been taken to monitor the situation’s progression as part of the routine checks conducted at Las Teresitas. Results point towards a contamination level that necessitates the precautionary measure of closing off this swimming area.

Adhering to the protocol for such cases upon receiving a water quality alert, municipal personnel have once again today collected samples from that beach spot to verify if the unfavorable readings persist or have dissipated.

Beach rescue and lifeguard personnel are informing beachgoers attempting to access the affected beach area about the incident.
