A portion of Las Teresitas beach has been closed by the Municipal Operational Coordination Centre (Cecopal) of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council just before 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday due to an incident of “pollution”. No further details have been provided at this time.
The affected area includes the central entrance, marked as number 8.
The red flag has been raised at Las Teresitas, and Red Cross personnel have informed beachgoers accordingly.
The incident has been categorised as “short-term” by the Health Inspection Service and Laboratory of the Tenerife Health Area of the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS), as stated by the City Council. The municipal Environmental Sustainability and Health area has declared that specific section unsuitable for swimming.
Necessary actions have been taken by the council to monitor the situation’s progress through routine checks conducted at Las Teresitas.
Water quality analyses have shown contamination levels that justify the preventative step of closing that bathing area.
The beach rescue and lifeguard team, besides raising the red flag, have outlined the affected section’s boundaries.
Following the protocol for water quality notifications, municipal staff have collected samples from that beach spot again to confirm if the negative values persist or have vanished.
