On Saturday 19 October, marking World Cancer Day, the Infanta Leonor Auditorium in Los Cristianos will be the venue for the second awards ceremony of the Carrera por la Vida Foundation. These awards recognise institutions, companies, groups and individuals who contribute to the progress of their projects, thus enhancing the quality of life for individuals with breast cancer.
SWIMMING FOR A CAUSE
The Carrera por la Vida Foundation emphasises the importance of health in sports and the encouragement of physical activity. This year, recognition will be bestowed upon Club Tenerife Masters for their exemplary inclusivity. Since 2013, they have been the driving force behind the Swimming for Life event, a non-competitive sports initiative that promotes swimming and shows solidarity with those affected by breast cancer.
Finca Canarias Aloe Vera will be acknowledged for their “profound, intimate and familial” dedication to the Foundation’s projects. This commitment is evident not only in their corporate social responsibility and financial contributions but also in the creation of the Dakar for Life project to raise awareness about breast cancer, both in women and men, during the Dakar Rally, the world’s most significant motor racing event.
COMMUNITY RECOGNITION
Within the community, three organisations will be honoured with these awards. Supporting research is a vital objective of the Carrera por la Vida Foundation. In recognition of their medical advancements, which contribute to enhanced knowledge and improved treatments for cancer, the FERO Foundation will receive the 2024 Research Award.
The INVI Association, the leading entity in Spain to offer ongoing support for men with breast cancer and to combat their invisibility, will be presented with the Social Action Prize.
WOMEN OF ABONA
At a regional level, boasting over 25 years of experience, the Abona Women’s Association has become a pillar in the Archipelago’s network of associations. With over a hundred women dedicated to the well-being and progress of their peers, the association voluntarily initiated the Arico, Moves for Life project, displaying solidarity with those affected by breast cancer. For this, they will be honoured with the Social Initiative Award.
The Carrera por la Vida Foundation also acknowledges the contribution of the media, which, beyond their informative role, play a crucial part in raising social awareness. Due to their accessibility and effective communication with non-Spanish-speaking audiences, Canarian Weekly will be recognised with the 2024 Carrera por la Vida Foundation Media Award.
During the gala event, alongside the award ceremony, the Carrera por la Vida Foundation will showcase the initiatives undertaken in the past year and unveil new projects and challenges for 2025, the year of their 20th anniversary. The gala, scheduled for Saturday, October 19th at 7:00 p.m. in the Infanta Leonor auditorium in Los Cristianos, is supported by the Arona City Council.
