Since June 2023, the coalition governing Tacoronte, formed by PSOE, CC and PP, has wrapped up its initial year in power. Major opposition group Nueva Canarias (NC) deems this year as “overwhelmingly negative for the municipality” as no significant projects were initiated. Over 7 million Euros allocated for previously planned and budgeted actions from the previous term have been squandered, with hundreds of thousands spent on events.
NC labels this administration as the “government of denial”, asserting that it does not foster Tacoronte’s growth but rather caters to its own interests. The party claims that, within its first year, this administration has set a record for being the most expensive in history. To mark this milestone, a new councillor has been appointed, further burdening public funds.
NC’s spokesperson and former mayor, José Daniel Díaz, laments the fact that “Tacoronteros have to bear a cost of over 820,000 Euros yearly for an inactive and unimaginative government, which has failed to implement any programs or initiatives for the present or future.”
Díaz notes that “within a year, they have granted themselves the highest politician’s salary ever seen in Tacoronte, surpassing their predecessors by an average of 20%. They also formed the most expensive team of advisors in the municipality, who, sadly, do not contribute to the community but serve the personal and political interests of the government members.”
Díaz Armas asserts that “this administration has no achievements to pride itself on” as it only lavishes money on events, quadrupling the previous expenses in this area.”
Nueva Canarias highlights that when the coalition assumed office, they reassured that their lavish spending would be justified by their performance. However, due to what NC considers as low productivity and motivation from some members, PSOE, CC and PP are now being urged to answer to the residents of Tacoronte.
