Extensive Search Operation Organised by the Civil Guard for Jay Slater in Masca on Saturday

On Friday, the Civil Guard announced that they will be leading a large-scale search for the missing 19-year-old British tourist, Jay Slater, who disappeared on June 17 in Buenavista del Norte. The operation is scheduled to commence at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Considering the rugged terrain of the Masca area, characterized by steep slopes, rocky surfaces, and numerous ravines, trails, and roads, the Civil Guard is seeking assistance from Civil Protection and volunteer Firefighter associations to ensure a coordinated search effort.

The search will commence from Mirador de la Cruz de Hilda (Masca) to facilitate a systematic and thorough search operation that will continue until nightfall.

Despite deploying additional resources such as a helicopter, drones, and a specialised dog unit from Madrid to reinforce the GREIM team, the search for Slater has yielded no results after 12 days. The Civil Guard is keeping all possibilities open.

Slater had travelled to Tenerife with two friends for holidays and a music festival in the south of the island. In the early hours of June 16, he met two other individuals and accompanied them to a house in Teno Rural Park.

His friends reported him missing when his mobile phone battery died. In their last communication, Slater informed them that he missed the bus, was thirsty, and was attempting to walk back to his apartment in the southern part of the island.
