Two young individuals who were victims of an aggression during a massive brawl in La Orotava in July 2020 have stated in court that they are unable to recognise their assailants due to excessive alcohol consumption. The trial, held on Wednesday at the Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, involves five accused persons who have chosen not to testify, while their defences are requesting acquittal.
One of the assaulted young individuals stated that, during the brawl, he was “very intoxicated” and only recalls receiving a blow to the mouth with “something very shiny”. The other complainant also mentioned an inability to identify the perpetrators of the blows received.

The Prosecutor’s Office in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is standing firm in its request for a 28-year prison sentence and the payment of around 28,500 Euros by the five accused individuals. The Public Ministry argues that the incidents constitute various offences including injuries causing deformity, a minor offence, one involving a dangerous instrument, and one for mistreatment.
According to the Prosecutor’s account, the brawl initially involved four young individuals who tried to assault another, prompting three friends of the victim to intervene in his defence. The Prosecutor is seeking prison terms and the payment of 26,400 Euros in compensation for the four assailants, in addition to a fine of 270 Euros for the initial victim.

The scuffle erupted when the four accused individuals began assaulting the first victim and his friends, using fists, chairs, and glassware. As a result of the violence, one of the young individuals suffered a laceration on the lower lip and the loss of two teeth, another sustained a bruise on the leg, one more suffered a superficial head injury, and another was struck on the hand.
The trial continues with the defense of the accused seeking their acquittal, while the Prosecutor’s Office maintains its stance on the sentences and compensations.
