Endesa, through e-distribution its Networks subsidiary, allocates an investment of 3.32 million euros to carry out the comprehensive renovation project of the Los Olivos substation, located in the touristic municipality of Adeje, which serves 12,300 subscribers in the south of Tenerife.
The modernization and improvement project of this electrical infrastructure, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2025 and which Endesa describes as “ambitious,” involves the renovation and expansion of the indoor and outdoor facilities to significantly increase its available transformation capacity and ensure the growth of the market, the planned urban development for the area, and to ensure electricity supply in contingency situations. The refurbishment of the Adeje substation is one of the most costly and comprehensive projects carried out by Endesa in Canary Islands in the field of substations in the last two years.
The comprehensive renovation project of the substation located in the touristic municipality of Adeje began last May and is expected to be completed by the last quarter of 2025. This project aims to solve the current space issues of these facilities to accommodate new equipment to meet the current and future increase in resident and tourist population in the south of the island of Tenerife, as well as to prepare the electrical grid to support the increase in renewable energy generation in the area.
Endesa’s Networks subsidiary will install a third transformer of 66/20KV with 40MVA of power in the Los Olivos substation, a new busbar sector with its set of 20KV MT cabins. Additionally, the project includes expanding the space of the current substation that houses these facilities. In this way, the electrical grid is prepared to ensure service in the face of any contingencies that may arise in any of the transformers in this substation.
The project, detailed in numerous plans, includes the aforementioned increase in the available transformation capacity of the substation. This will allow a greater penetration of renewable generation and address the future growing demand for supply for consumption in an area of increasing population and tourist and industrial growth. With this, Endesa achieves one of its priorities, to offer maximum quality service to the 12,300 clients in the area served by this substation and to make the facilities available to ensure that this quality remains intact with the anticipated demand growth already planned and changes in the future electrical generation in the islands.

The action that Endesa has initiated at the Los Olivos substation is part of the update and expansion that the company is carrying out in the Islands and will make it one of the most modern in the Canary Islands. The project will also serve to increase the safety and reliability of the facilities, with a new fire safety system for the transformers. On the other hand, it ensures its operability and improves the capacity and speed of response to any incident. The beneficiaries are the 12,300 subscribers to whom it supplies electricity in the localities of Adeje casco, Fañabé, El Galeón, La Caleta, Los Olivos, Playa de Las Américas and part of Arona.
