The City Council of Santa Cruz, under the supervision of the Mobility department, has described the trial run conducted between last Thursday and Sunday to assess the effectiveness of the dedicated bus and taxi lane to Las Teresitas beach as “promising”. The purpose of this trial was to encourage the public to utilise public transportation more frequently, thus alleviating congestion during weekends and holidays.
Evelyn Alonso, the council member in charge, mentioned that the only setback encountered was unfavourable weather conditions, as wind and cloud cover led to a lower turnout at the beach. This impacted the evaluation since the trial could not be conducted on a typical hot day with a larger crowd. Therefore, there are considerations to repeat the trial on another weekend.
Alonso stated, “We are awaiting feedback from Titsa, but there has been an observed increase in people opting for bus transport to reach the beach area.” Additionally, she revealed plans to organise a meeting with San Andrés residents and business owners to gather their feedback on carrying out the trial run again.
