SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 23rd June (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Guía de Isora Local Government, under the Department of Equality, has scheduled workshops for municipal employees on LGBTI topics on 28th of June. The workshop will take place in the auditorium of the town from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in conjunction with International LGBTI Pride Day.
The event has been coordinated in collaboration with the Rayuela Association and the Prisma regional network (Network of municipalities in the Southern area of Tenerife for sexual and gender emotional diversity) and will include a presentation by Carlos Savoie Pérez, a nurse and social integrator, geared towards the technical and political staff of the Guía de Isora municipality.
The presentation will cover various topics, such as approaching sexual and gender diversity at the municipal level; exploring sexuality and its various aspects; distinguishing between biological sex, gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation; LGBTI laws in the Canary Islands and Spain, as well as suggestions for municipal involvement in the subject. An overview of the different resources and services available to the community in Tenerife will also be provided.
The Equality Councillor, Acerina González, has praised this workshop, emphasising that it will enable “enhanced engagement of the LGBTI community with the Local Government.” The councillor believes that despite the already good treatment of all individuals by the authorities, “it is always beneficial to strengthen understanding of the realities faced by members of the community and to highlight the various approaches to address them.”
