The inaugural assembly of taxi drivers’ associations from Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and professionals from various towns, which took place in the main city of Tenerife last week, has decided to formalise the Taxi Yes Canary Islands movement into a federation. This marks the initial step towards safeguarding the collective interests of the taxi industry, currently battling against the emergence of Uber services and Tourist Vehicles with Drivers (VTC), along with issues related to piracy and insurance.
The association has set a three-month timeframe to establish connections at the political level in the pursuit of resolving the challenges confronted by the sector. Should there be no response after this period, direct action will be taken.
As part of their strategy, Taxi Yes Canary Islands does not exclude the possibility of organising protests in the provincial capitals and other towns across the Islands willing to participate.
