Fedola achieved great success with its sixth edition of Papatour 2024, the event that introduces new potato varieties to the Canarian producer market and establishes itself as a key meeting for innovation and commercial openness among the island’s potato growers.
The event, held in Tacoronte, attracted over a hundred attendees, including farmers, producers, and industry experts. Throughout the day, the results of 12 varieties were showcased, aiming for increased profitability, greater disease resistance, and improved water consumption efficiency. Attendees also had the opportunity to taste their culinary properties.
During the Papatour presentation, Victoria López, president of the Fedola Group, highlighted the Canarian corporation’s work in supporting the primary sector: “Fedola demonstrates its commitment to diversification through the dissemination and commercialization of new potato varieties, encouraging young farmers to introduce these varieties to the market.”
Noteworthy presences included the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Sovereignty of the Canary Islands Government, Narvay Quintero; the Minister of Industry, Primary Sector, and Animal Welfare of the Tenerife Island Council, Manuel Fernández; and the Mayor of Tacoronte, Sandra Izquierdo. All public authorities highlighted the value of this private initiative that disseminates knowledge and innovation to open up the consumer market and make crop cultivation in the islands more profitable.
Advantages of new varieties
On the ground, attendees were able to directly observe the characteristics and advantages of the new varieties presented. These demonstrations are crucial for farmers to evaluate and decide on the implementation of these new options in their crops.
The sixth edition of Papatour also maintained its informative profile, with conferences led by experts in variety hybridization and agricultural soil treatment, particularly addressing the water stress experienced in the Canarian fields. In this way, Fedola promotes the exchange of knowledge and experiences among industry professionals.
Fedola, a company with more than 60 years of history, continues to look towards the future with events like Papatour, which not only promote innovation but also strengthen the bond between tradition and modernity in the Canarian agricultural sector.
