SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 21st June (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Government of Tenerife has allocated 330,000 euros to the TeidELA Association (Association for the Battle against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) in the region, with the goal of “enhancing the quality of life for individuals impacted by this illness.”
The Minister of Social Assistance, Águeda Fumero, along with Sinpromi’s CEO, Adal García, conducted a meeting today, Friday, with the president and vice president of this organisation, Marcelino Martín and Hortensia Hernández.
The meeting coincided with the International ALS Awareness Day, during which the minister reconfirmed “the government’s dedication to patients of this illness and their families. Hence, in this fiscal year, we have raised the funding to this association by 55,000 euros, to assist in expanding their services to a broader audience through the Insular Ring of Social Policies.”
Currently, the association offers an information, guidance, consciousness, education, and monitoring programme, aiming to establish a central hub for individuals with ALS and their families in Tenerife, as well as boost collaboration with other regional, national, and international bodies operating in the same sector.
This funding will enable the continuation of a pilot initiative, offering specialised in-home care to enhance the independence of about 20 ALS patients by providing comprehensive and specialised assistance, alongside support for their families.
Águeda Fumero emphasised that “by expanding this funding, our goal is to cater to a larger number of ALS patients” and praised the valuable efforts undertaken by these associations, stating “the assistance provided is vital for both patients and their families, justifying the government’s aid to ensure their projects come to fruition.”
The minister also highlighted that “through Sinpromi, we have developed an alternative communication scheme for ALS patients”, considering it “a prime example of collaborative work between the government and third-sector organisations.”
The Minister of Social Assistance concluded by stating that “the meeting with TeidELA coincides with the World ALS Awareness Day, a significant occasion prompting us to increase awareness about this disease and shed light on the associations striving to enhance the lives of individuals affected by ALS and their families.”
