Tenerife is still jam-packed with activities during the weekends in a commitment by both public and private sectors to keep entertainment thriving on the Island. Traditions, music, and cinema offer alluring options available in the coming days for you to enjoy some hours of entertainment tailored to your preferences. Here are the plans scheduled for this weekend:
Movie
This weekend, at 7:00 pm, TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes will screen La caja de cristal (Black box, 2023), a film about gentrification and social prejudices set in the microcosm of an apartment building. Directed by the award-winning Turkish-German director Asli Özge, this film is an intense psychodrama with a social and human essence, hiding behind its mysterious puzzle facade, complex characters with double faces, and current themes of socioeconomic and political denunciation such as gentrification, classism, unemployment, reconciliation, health, terrorist threats, racism, and even the War of Russia. It can be viewed in the original version in German, English, French, Andi, Arabic, Turkish, and Russian with Spanish subtitles.
Teide Observatory
The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) is organizing an Open Day event at Teide Observatory (Izaña) this weekend, coinciding with the summer solstice week. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the various telescopes, understand their functioning, and observe the Sun live.
This activity, jointly organized by Teide Observatory and the Science Communication and Culture Unit (UC3), is part of the outreach activities carried out by the Institute to allow the public to firsthand experience one of the best observatories in the world, its innovative infrastructures, the exceptional work of its staff, and the significant astrophysical research conducted there. Visits will last three hours and will be scheduled in two shifts each day: from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

This Saturday, Teatro Guimerá will host the play ‘El padre‘, starring José María Pou. The renowned actor portrays Andrés, a seventy-six-year-old man, cultured, witty, and stubborn, who is losing his memory but refuses to accept any help and rejects all the caregivers that his daughter, Ana, tries to hire. As he tries to make sense of his changing circumstances, Andrés begins to doubt his loved ones, his mind, and even his own experience of reality. The show starts at 8:00 pm, and tickets are available for sale on the theatre’s website for 28, 30, and 32 Euros.
