Free. A word that often has a magical effect on anyone who hears it. It creates a sense of magic and bewilderment, as many people find it hard to believe what a new restaurant in San Cristóbal de La Laguna is planning. El Mesón de La Laguna will offer a 6-course menu plus dessert for free to 400 people, a move that has led to incredulous calls: “We’ve been asked if it was a hoax, if it was untrue, or if we were crazy.”
These words form part of the main image presented to the public by this new restaurant. With extensive experience, the manager of the establishment, Victor Manuel González Melián, embarks on a new project with an aggressive strategy. On the 25th and 26th of June, they will serve 400 people in eight shifts over these two days. Victor will not be alone in this endeavour. Along with his team in the dining area, he is joined in the kitchen by his colleagues Rayco Hernández Suárez, who approves all dishes leaving the kitchen.

Located at 105 Herradores Street, since announcing this initiative on their social media last Tuesday, the restaurant’s phone has not stopped ringing. Within 48 hours, all 400 spots were already reserved without anyone knowing the menu. The little information available was explained by Victor in a video posted on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.

A conglomerate of fine dining

El Mesón de La Laguna is located where the Mil Placeres fusion restaurant used to be. The new restaurant is part of a network of fine dining establishments that include various premises across the Tenerife region.
Taberna Santo Domingo, Tasca Ossuna, Tasca El Obispado, or Restaurante Brisas del Médano are following the same path as El Mesón de La Laguna: refined service using top-quality products. Each one offers different culinary experiences, with some dishes in common.

It is clear that this new restaurant aims to delight its guests with its dishes and products. For this purpose, a risky move, as daring as offering their services for free.
