SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 19th June (EUROPA PRESS) –
A collaboration agreement has been signed between the Cabildo of Tenerife and the City Council of La Orotava for the enhancement of the TF-21 island road, covering kilometers 7+000 to 13+210. The aim of this project is to improve the section between Hacienda Perdida and Aguamansa, passing through Barroso, Colombo, Cañeño, and Camino de Chasna within the municipality.
The total budget allocated for the project stands at 38.7 million Euros, including a 7% IGIC, with an estimated duration of 24 months. The works will involve units of both insular and municipal jurisdiction. In terms of funding, the agreement stipulates a contribution of 34.5 million Euros from the Cabildo of Tenerife, with an additional 4.2 million Euros to be invested by the La Orotava City Council.
The agreement-signing ceremony was attended by Rosa Dávila, the president of the Cabildo of Tenerife; Dámaso Arteaga, Minister of Highways; Serafín Mesa, Minister of Youth and Training; Francisco Linares, Mayor of La Orotava, along with council members from the Orotava Corporation, the president of the ‘Don Víctor ‘Altos de La Orotava’ association, Vicente Pacheco, and representatives from the local communities.
Rosa Dávila expressed gratitude for “the perseverance demonstrated over 15 years by the residents who have pressed for the maintenance of such a vital road for the island as the TF-21.” She added, “The initiation of this project, anticipated for years, is also a demonstration of our dedication to enhance the safety and comfort of all. The collaborative effort between the Cabildo and the La Orotava City Council serves as a model of institutional cooperation and signifies our joint commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all Tenerife residents.”
In response, Francisco Linares thanked the residents for their support and acknowledged the partnership with the Tenerife Cabildo, stating, “Today marks a significant milestone, as it represents the most substantial agreement ever signed by a Cabildo and a city council.” He also remarked, “Residents have endangered their lives for years as this road acts as a crucial link between various neighbourhoods and forces locals to walk along it.”
Vicente Pacheco expressed appreciation to the Cabildo and the City Council, stating, “After numerous years, residents will finally benefit from enhanced safety measures on this critical road.”
The project’s objective is to enhance road safety through adjustments to the layout’s geometry and pavement improvements. The targeted section (between Hacienda Perdida and Aguamansa, encompassing the urban areas of Barroso, Colombo, Cañeño, and Camino de Chasna) extends over six kilometres of road with winding paths and sharp turns, making driving challenging and diminishing road safety. This area witnesses nearly 4,000 vehicles daily, as TF-21 stands as one of the main entry points to the Teide National Park.
