Approval has been granted for the implementation of on-demand transport services in the towns of Arico, Fasnia and Güímar.
SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 19 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Government of Tenerife, during the Government Council meeting held on this Wednesday, has given the green light for the enhancement of the direct lane connecting San Isidro to El Médano.
The enhancement project, with a budget of 1.1 million Euros, aims to link the TF-642 highway in Granadilla de Abona, which runs parallel to the TF-1 Southern Highway towards Santa Cruz, with the TF-64 in San Isidro leading to El Médano.
During a press conference presided over by Rosa Dávila, the President of the Cabildo, and Manuel Fernández, the Minister of Industry, the President explained that this dedicated lane will offer a direct route to El Médano without the need to use the San Isidro roundabout.
“This new direct route will help alleviate traffic congestion around the San Isidro roundabout, where significant delays are experienced during peak hours. The congestion is particularly substantial at the entrance to El Médano, with an average of 12,400 vehicles passing through daily. This enhancement is a vital improvement to reduce travel times and enhance road safety in this key traffic area in the southern part of the island,” she emphasised.
The Cabildo estimates that with the completion of these works, travel time in the affected area could be reduced by approximately 30%.
This means that, under normal traffic conditions, drivers could potentially save up to 10 minutes on their typical journeys to El Médano, depending on traffic volume and other factors.
The company Transformaciones y Servicios, SL has been awarded the contract for the execution of the project.
Additionally, the Government Council has initiated the tender process for the on-demand transport service covering the municipalities of Fasnia, Arico, and Güímar.
The aim of the On-Demand Transport Service is to facilitate better movement between bus stops and remote or less accessible areas that are typically not served by public transport.
This initiative will enhance mobility for residents in rural areas characterised by dispersed neighbourhoods and communication challenges, offering a transport service that connects them to the existing public transport network.
Furthermore, routes will be dynamic, adapting to passenger demand, with reservations available through a mobile app or by contacting a call centre.
The service will operate using cars, minibuses, taxis, or VTCs from Monday to Friday, between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.
The estimated budget for this tender is 465,160 Euros, with the contract spanning 12 months and being extendable for an additional 12 months.
In the realm of Innovation, Research and Development, the Government Council has approved an agreement with the State Agency Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) for the implementation of the ‘Talentum Plan for scientific research of Natural Products and Agrobiology’ (CSIC-IPNA) amounting to 2,150,000 Euros.
This agreement will facilitate projects focused on sustainability, health improvement, and support economic growth through innovation and knowledge transfer.
The Council also approved the service contract tender for the launch of ‘Merkarte’ in the Youth sector, with an allocated amount of 129,000 Euros.
Within the sector of Social Action, a sum of 178,701.12 Euros was approved to bolster the team at the Specialized Care Service for Children and Families, incorporating two psychologists and two social workers.
Additionally, an amount of 804,000 Euros was approved for the 2024 Social Tourism campaign aimed at the elderly population on the island.
ENHANCEMENT OF THE GÜÍMAR INDUSTRIAL ESTATE
In the Industry sector, the Government Council has endorsed the contracting process for the adaptation of garden areas, roads, and sidewalks within the Valle de Güímar Industrial Estate, with an estimated cost of around 355,000 Euros.
This action is part of the comprehensive plan being implemented by the Cabildo, in cooperation with the municipalities of Güímar, Candelaria, and Arafo, for improvement projects in the vicinity of this industrial estate, with a budget of 355,378.03 Euros.
Within the Tourism sector, the Council approved an agreement between the Cabildo and the Puerto de la Cruz City Council for the execution of the project ‘Wastewater connections and supply of the Taoro Complex and pumping station (Phase 2 and 3)’ amounting to approximately 483,000 Euros.
In the Sports sector, the Government Council sanctioned various agreements with the municipalities of El Rosario, Icod de los Vinos, and Vilaflor de Chasna for the enhancement of facilities.
The total investment in these initiatives amounts to around 1.5 million Euros and forms part of the Sports Infrastructure Plan 2022-2026.
Furthermore, the criteria and call for subsidies for sports clubs, sports federations, and individual athletes travelling to official national and international sports competitions between January 1, 2024, and June 30, 2024, have been approved, with an allocated sum of 480,000 Euros.
