This Friday kicks off at the Santiago Yánes arena in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, the “José Rodríguez Trophy” Faro de Maspalomas, a historic fighter from Telde that gives its name to the Canary Islands Championships in the junior category for male and female traditional Canarian wrestling.
An engaging championship organized by the General Directorate of Native Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, in which fighters from all the islands will strive alongside their teammates to win the regional trophy. A tournament whose preparation began several months ago for the Gran Canaria squad, which aims to achieve and even surpass the good results obtained last season.

With plenty of enthusiasm and energy, they gathered at the Gran Canaria Stadium for the pre-departure meeting this Thursday. In the female category, Gran Canaria will compete from 11:30 am this Friday 21 against Fuerteventura, resuming the competition on Saturday 22 at 10:30 am against La Palma, and then at 6:00 pm competing against Lanzarote. They will conclude their participation on Sunday 23 at 11:30 am against the host team from the island of Tenerife.

On the other hand, the male squad enlisted in Group A, will debut on Friday at 7:30 pm against the El Hierro island. On Saturday, they will battle at 11:30 am against La Palma. During the afternoon, the semifinals will take place starting at 4:00 pm, with the schedule determined by the final classification of the different teams. Sunday will start at 9:30 am with the beginning of the final phase for the third and fourth places, with the final scheduled from 12:30 pm onwards.
