SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 19th of June (EUROPA PRESS) –
Today, on Wednesday, the Tenerife Civic Council and the La Laguna Municipal Council formalised the signing of an agreement where the Municipality transfers two pieces of land to the regional Institution for the development of two social and health centres in La Hornera and Los Baldíos catering to the elderly and individuals with disabilities.
The signing event was attended by the president of the Council, Rosa Dávila; the Minister of Social Welfare, Águeda Fumero, and the mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez.
While signing the agreement, Rosa Dávila expressed her gratitude to the mayor of La Laguna and the Social Welfare department for their contribution in reaching this day, where a crucial part of the process has been completed: the voluntary transfer of a portion of the Municipal Council’s land dedicated to the most vulnerable individuals in the community of La Laguna.
The president mentioned that “the Civic Council is now taking the initiative to establish new social and medical care facilities for the elderly and individuals with disabilities in two significant locations in La Laguna.”
On her part, the Minister of Social Welfare, Águeda Fumero, affirmed that “from the Civic Council, especially from the Social Welfare division and the IASS, we are energising and modernising all initiatives that will lead to an increase in the number of social and healthcare spaces, including both day care and residential, for the elderly and those with various disabilities.”
Fumero praised “the land transfer by the La Laguna Municipal Council, considering that the highest demand for social and healthcare spaces, for both the elderly and individuals with disabilities in Tenerife, is in the metropolitan zone,” and she mentioned that “the land situated on Camino La Hornera will host a facility for individuals with disabilities, while the Los Baldíos plot will accommodate an eldercare centre, for which the plan is yet to be developed to make these facilities accessible to Tenerife residents promptly.”
Finally, the mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, concluded that “today marks a joyous occasion as the administrative process for transferring two plots of our municipality has been finalised, with the objective of meeting the demand for socio-medical facilities in our region.”
