A man was apprehended by the Canarian Police for reportedly assaulting his former partner, who cried out for help from inside her residence in La Laguna, Tenerife.
Authorities, who were nearby for another incident, were alerted by a woman seeking assistance, as confirmed on Tuesday by the authorities in the Canary Islands.
Upon entering the premises, the police overheard a confrontation between the woman and the man, with the woman alleging that he was preventing her from opening the door to let them in.
Inside, the officers separated the couple and conducted individual interviews.
The woman recounted that the man, who was her former partner, had assaulted her and confiscated her mobile phone upon entering the residence.
Conversely, the man claimed he had entered the premises to report the woman for allegedly sheltering two minors for whom there were active search, detention, and admission orders to CIEM Valle Tabares.
The purported victim was escorted to the nearest medical facility and subsequently to the police station, where she filed a report along with the medical evaluation.
Concurrently, the man was arrested and taken to the hospital, where his right hand was treated for a fractured bone.
Upon discharge from the hospital, he was transported to the police station to be presented before the Police Court for Violence against Women, as per official statements.
The alleged perpetrator did not have any prior arrests or restraining orders, but did have a police record for a previous incident of gender-based violence involving a different individual.
