Immerse yourself in the rhythms of isas, folías, and seguidillas as the streets of the Santacrucero neighbourhood of Chamberí came alive yesterday with music and traditions. Folklore groups deeply rooted in this area of the capital gathered for a celebration infused with Canary Islands’ idiosyncrasy.
The Ofra-Costa Sur district of the City Council hosted a magical dance in this vibrant neighbourhood. The event commenced at 5:00 p.m. with a parade of folk groups through the neighbourhood streets, culminating at the Chamberí sports centre where various activities were held. The festivities continued well into the night with performances by folk groups like Orígenes, Verode, Atenguajos, Santo Ángel, and Alborada.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez highlighted that “the Santa Cruz Magician’s Ball sets the standard for the May Festival, so seeing every district following this tradition is great news for the city.”
Councilor Santiago Díaz, overseeing the district, elaborated, “Appreciating folklore is an essential element for preserving our customs and traditions. Therefore, it is vital for administrations to promote it.” He emphasised, “The district aims to contribute to the dissemination of our heritage by organising this magical dance.”
