The Road Department of the Tenerife Cabildo is carrying out rehabilitation works on the road between La Laguna and Punta del Hidalgo (TF-13), specifically in the area between Tejina and Bajamar. The focus is on improving the safety conditions of the Porlier junction. Due to the ongoing works, this section will be closed from yesterday until 3rd July, from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, with a single alternative lane regulated by traffic lights in the affected section, as stated by the island’s institution in a press release. Similarly, the turn from the Porlier Urbanization onto TF-13 will be prohibited from turning left.
The Roads Councilor, Dámaso Arteaga, explains that this is “a very important project because, as agreed with the residents, we have carried out excavation works where a new bus stop with a shelter will be located and a pedestrian crossing will be installed.” The actions are part of the rehabilitation project for the TF-13 island road, which has an investment of 3.2 million Euros.
“The Cabildo asks drivers and users of this road to take extra precautions and pay attention at all times to the signs and the instructions of the Roads Services staff,” as stated in the press release issued yesterday.
It is noteworthy that TF-13 is a road for which residents and political parties have been demanding improvements for years. The Bajamar Citizen Center hosted a meeting on this matter in February 2018, with previous announcements made before that. In January of last year, the Tenerife Cabildo stated that the project for the improvement of this island road was in its final stages of drafting. “This initiative aims to address safety issues and enhance the comfort of the road between kilometre points 12.5 and 19.02,” it specified.

In particular, there were plans to widen the road and provide it with a pavement. Additionally, as indicated at that time, the surface would be improved, and three roundabouts would be created. These would be located at the entrance to the Bajamar Yacht Club, on Los Pescadores Avenue, and at the entrance to the seafront of Punta del Hidalgo, eliminating left turns of vehicles, thereby increasing road safety. They also designed an accessible route taking into account the creation of pavements between 1.5 and 3 meters wide, the installation of pedestrian crossings, and the enhancement of several bus stops. “To create pedestrian areas that address inclusivity issues, railings will also be installed to protect the most dangerous sections, and pavements will be lowered to improve accessibility,” added the island institution in 2023.
