SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 13th June. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife is all set to debut the 1st Tenerife International Underwater Film Series (Cimasub Tenerife) on June 27. The event aims to showcase the exciting activities that unfold beneath the sea’s surface.
The screening, which is open to all free of charge, will take place at the TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes auditorium starting from 6:30 p.m. Eight captivating documentaries will be shown, followed by a stimulating round table discussion.
Furthermore, the Sala de Los Lavaderos in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host a mesmerising photography exhibition from July 2 to 30.
In a statement, the president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, highlighted that this festival marks a pioneering effort in the region to promote sea-related activities.
“Preserving the environment is our topmost priority, and this initiative is a part of the Cabildo’s Environmental Participation and Volunteering Strategy for the Marine Coast of Tenerife,” she remarked.
The Minister of Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security and Emergencies, Blanca Pérez, stressed the significance of such initiatives in creating awareness among citizens about the crucial nature of conserving and safeguarding coastlines and seas. Meanwhile, the insular director of Medio Natural, Pedro Millán, mentioned that viewers will have the opportunity to enjoy top-notch documentaries and engage in discussions about the current scenario with experts at the round table, scheduled for June 27.
The initiative falls under the Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security, and Emergencies sector of the Cabildo and is linked to the Donostia-San Sebastián International Underwater Film Series, organised by Subacuásticas Real Sociedad.
The I Cimasub Tenerife event revolves around scuba diving as a sport, underwater imagery as technology, cinema and photography as art and culture, and the immense love for the sea.
Throughout the day, there will be an intriguing round table session moderated by marine documentary producer Felipe Ravina, featuring the insular director of Medio Natural, Pedro Millán; the director of Europe Hotels International, Arianna Gassman; cetacean expert researcher Natacha Aguilar; and underwater photographer Francis Pérez.
This edition has received support from the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council through its Autonomous Organization for Culture and the Santa Cruz Sostenible Foundation. Additionally, collaboration is extended by TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, the Canarian Federation of Underwater Activities, and the Office of Environmental Participation and Volunteering.
