Investing 15 million Euros in Three Projects to Establish 181 Social and Healthcare Facilities

Securing 15,112,946 Euros in funding from European sources will enable the Tenerife Island Council to drive the construction of three social and healthcare centres on the island to accommodate 181 individuals with autism spectrum disorders, trisomy 21, or seniors in residential care. The island’s Corporation is receiving this sum from a pool of 73.6 million Euros from the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs, and Agenda 2030. These projects stem from a collaboration agreement with the Government of the Canary Islands concerning investments linked to the equipment program for caregiving services. This was announced yesterday by the President, Rosa Dávila, and the Vice President, Lope Afonso, after the Island Government Council meeting.

The first of the three initiatives corresponds to the residential complex for individuals with autism spectrum disorders in La Laguna (20 residential places). 3.3 million Euros will be allocated to build four houses with five places each. The project has a 24-month execution period, is already drafted, and has available land.

The expansion of the social centre for individuals with Trisomy 21 Down syndrome Tenerife, also in La Laguna, will provide an additional 21 residential places and 45 day care spots. Like the previous project, it is drafted and updated with current prices, hence the tender will be “imminent” with a budget of 6,097,048 Euros and an execution period of 14 months.

Finally, the senior social and healthcare centre in Guía de Isora –75 residential places and 20 day care spots– has an investment of 3,172,503 Euros. These 95 places are distributed in 35 double rooms, one triple room, and four single rooms. The execution period is 12 months, although a new project is required to complete the construction of the building, which was subject to acts of vandalism.

The remaining European funds are divided into a budget of 1.5 million for the procurement of equipment, and an additional one million for drafting the technical projects.

Also in Social Action, the Island Government Council approved the tender for the management service contract of a specialized centre for comprehensive care for adolescents with protective measures, severe emotional problems, and social conflict, amounting to 1,418,818 Euros with a 2-year execution period. Furthermore, a budget amendment was approved to increase the specific contribution to Cruz Roja by 120,000 Euros, aiming to finance two day care centres located in the North (Puerto de la Cruz) and the South (Arona, El Fraile), with the objective of promoting social integration and enhancing the quality of life for homeless individuals. The credit increases from 372,924 to 492,924 Euros.

The Island Government Council approved the contract for the renovation of the workshop park of the Roads and Landscape Service of the Council, in La Cuesta (La Laguna), with a base tender budget of 1.6 million Euros and a 12-month execution period.

In Tourism, the decision-making body of the Island Government approved an agreement with the City Council of El Sauzal for the construction of a Tourist Information Office, as part of the renovation programme, with a budget of 263,024 Euros and a maximum validity period of 4 years.
