SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 12th June. (EUROPA PRESS) –
A woman was assisted by the Local Police inspector of La Laguna (Tenerife), José Javier López, after being held against her will and mistreated for over a month by a man in a property in the Tejina area.
According to the inspector’s statement on the official Local Police of La Laguna social media account, at around 11:30 a.m. this Tuesday, a neighbour in the Tejina area requested police assistance after receiving papers at his home where someone asked for help.
Upon arrival of several patrol cars, the authorities confirmed the neighbour’s report. Subsequently, they intervened to aid the victim, who was found in the company of a man claiming that “nothing was wrong.”
However, the woman revealed to the officers that she had been confined in the residence for more than a month since her arrival from Cuba. She disclosed that the man had confiscated her passport and subjected her to repeated mistreatment.
Consequently, following the verification of the situation, the man was taken into custody and handed over to the National Police Corps. Meanwhile, the woman received initial medical assistance at the Tejina Health Center, where she was assessed by a doctor.
She was later relocated to the National Police Station premises, where she provided a statement, leading to the man being placed in judicial custody thereafter.
The Local Police emphasises the importance of citizen involvement as one of the most effective approaches to combat or mitigate the “unfortunate scourge” of societal issues like gender violence.
