The chairpersons of the Consultative Council, Carlos Millán, and the Court of Auditors, Pedro Pacheco, assumed their positions on Friday in a ceremony held at the headquarters of the Government of the Canary Islands in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The head of the Executive, Fernando Clavijo, stated that both bodies play a “key role” as independent overseeing bodies.
The President of Canary Islands highlighted that a healthy and strong democracy is one in which citizens trust their institutions. He emphasized that this trust should not be taken for granted but rather nurtured, expressing full confidence in both Millán and Pacheco.
Carlos Millán, who previously held the position between 2005 and 2018, stated in his address that the Consultative Council of the Canary Islands, established forty years ago, bases its actions on “prudence and impartiality” when contributing to the drafting of laws and other tasks performed by this body, which he believes also requires a renewal of its regulations.

Pedro Pacheco, renewing his presidency, stated that he will dedicate all his effort and work to not disappoint, while mentioning that both the Parliament and citizens increasingly demand control over political activities and expenditures, a mission that the Court of Auditors will undertake.
