Guadalajara native David Pérez, known as David Moss, clinched the prize at the XIII Tenerife Fashion Young Designers Contest held last night at the Fairground. The event marked the opening of the International Textile Fair running until next Sunday. The collection, titled Blossom XXYYZZ, garnered unanimous approval from the jury, chaired by actress and model Bibiana Fernández, to win the award of 5,000 Euros presented by Tenerife Island President Rosa Dávila. Blossom XXYYZZ emerged as the winning collection this edition after parading on the grand catwalk located at the Black Box of the Tenerife International Trade Fair and Congress Centre, drawing inspiration from the female figure.
The second prize, amounting to 3,000 Euros, went to La Gomera’s Diego Barroso with the Glorius collection, a daring proposal in homage to women of the past who turned their homes into personal museums of experiences and emotions. Colombian emerging designer Alejandro Niño was awarded for the most commercial collection with his Coffee proposal, inspired by this popular beverage, a distinctive symbol of Colombia.
A total of seven finalists competed in this new edition of the contest, selected from a pool of 65 applicants from different parts of the world, showcasing a total of 70 designs, ten per designer, where volume, theatricality, and contrasts took the spotlight.
Efraín Medina, Employment councillor at Tenerife Island Council and driving force behind this event, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome and highlighted “a unique stage for these young creators that this year has regained all its former splendour.” Winner David Moss was emotional and delighted to have achieved success.
The finalists were David Pérez (Guadalajara); Eva Gómez (Vitoria); Leonardo Mena (Mexico); Alejandro Niño (Colombia), Diego Barroso (La Gomera); Michelle Abad, Andrea Rodríguez, and Alejandro Pérez – under the label Ama Studio (Tenerife) – and Nazareth Quesada Pineda (Tenerife).

The grand finale attracted a large audience to a visually stunning show, culminating with the multifaceted designer José Luis Díaz Megías, the creative mind behind It-Spain. The brand showcased its new collection on the Tenerife catwalk, inspired by the four elements of nature: earth, water, air, and fire. Beauty and strength merge through fashion.
The XIII Young Designers Contest, hosted by journalist Yaiza Díaz, kicked off with Ama Studio, whose trio of designers presented their Cybermorphosis collection, inspired by the negative impacts of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on society.
Next came the eventual winning proposal Blossom XXYYZZ by David Pérez, also known as David Moss, introducing a design based on the female figure where volume, ruffles, and extravagances, grounded in the concepts of art and avant-garde, are the hallmarks. The Alcarreño designer has a unique style where self-expression is the primary element of the designs.
From La Orotava, young Nazareth Quesada Pineda, with her Nanna label, presented her collection La Malquerida in third place, inspired by the intricate duality of life.
La Gomera’s Diego Barroso secured the second prize after parading fourth to present Glorius, a transgressive collection in tribute to women of yore who transformed their homes into personal museums of experiences and emotions. The designer draws inspiration from a kitsch style to merge baroque, religious, modern, and extravagant elements in genderfluid style garments presented on men.
The fifth collection in the contest was presented by designer Eva Gómez from Vitoria. The Basque designer showcased Anti-Cosmos, a proposal inspired by nature.
Human feelings transformed into pure art giving life to the illogical Zoo of shapes and colours, which was the focus of the penultimate catwalk show, the work of Mexican designer Leonardo Mena, stemming from love to heal episodes from his childhood.
