Santa Cruz is currently undergoing renovations and expansions at the Buenos Aires Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). This has led to significant alterations in traffic flow within the capital of Santa Cruz. As a result, the City Council will be implementing new traffic modifications through the Mobility and Universal Accessibility department starting Wednesday, 12th June.
These changes will particularly impact Manuel Hermoso Rojas Avenue due to the ongoing phase V works. This will result in traffic restrictions in the area between Pedro Modesto Campos and Los Llanos Seis streets. Additionally, there will be restoration of original traffic conditions on Pedro Modesto Campos and Miguel Maffiotte streets, as well as the section of Unión Artística el Cabo street, which was altered in phase IV.
During this new phase, the two ascending lanes of Manuel Hermoso Rojas Avenue will be closed between Los Llanos Seis Street and Pedro Modesto Campos Street. Furthermore, the traffic direction on Los Llanos Seis Street will be altered to redirect vehicles from the lower part of Manuel Hermoso Rojas, impacting some parking spaces.
In the initial subsection of this phase, there will also be a change in the direction of Unión Artística el Cabo street (between Llanos Seis and Pedro Modesto Campos), with plans to restore it to its original state upon completion of this phase.
To accommodate the turning radius of Los Llanos Seis Street and maintain a parking area for individuals with disabilities, only one traffic lane will be available on this street. This will lead to the reduction of lanes on Manuel Hermoso Rojas Avenue prior to its intersection with Los Llanos Seis Street.
Light vehicles from the ascending lanes of Manuel Hermoso Rojas will need to take the route via Los Llanos Seis, Unión Artística El Cabo, and Pedro Modesto Campos. From the latter, they can proceed onto either Manuel Hermoso Rojas (upward) or José Emilio García Gómez Street to reach their destination. Heavy vehicles must follow the route through Ermita de la Regla, Vicente Álvarez Pedreira, Adán Martín Menis, Álvaro Rodríguez López, Avenida Manuel Hermoso Rojas, and then continue to their final destination.
Santa Cruz Mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, emphasised that “these works involve the closure of sections with high traffic volumes, changes in street directions, and partial road occupancy at certain points. We urge citizens to cooperate and respect the temporary signage as these interventions are crucial for the expansion of the Buenos Aires WWTP.”
Evelyn Alonso, Councilor for Mobility and Universal Accessibility, mentioned that “paving works for phase IV will be completed by Monday and Tuesday, with phase V work commencing on Wednesday. This will allow the reopening of the intersection at Alcalde José Emilio García Gómez Street with Manuel Hermosos Rojas, progressing to the following block between Pedro Modesto Campos and Los Llanos Seis streets.”
