Just like last year, the Arico City Council’s Social Welfare department is set to reintroduce the complimentary summer camp service for the children of the municipality. The programme will be held across two sessions and in three distinct locations. From June 25 until August 2 at the La Jaca Cultural Center, and from August 5 to September 6, simultaneously, at the CEIP Villa de Arico and Virgen de Fátima. All sessions will run from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., with early drop-off from 07:30 a.m. and the option to stay until 3:00 p.m.
The service is currently undergoing the tender process with a total of 110 slots available. Registration is now open and can be completed online or in person at the Social Welfare department. Additionally, the online platform can be used to review the application criteria.
This complimentary service is open for children enrolled in the 23/24 academic year from 3rd grade of Preschool to 6th grade of primary school. This initiative forms part of the City Council’s efforts to support families in achieving a work-life balance during the holiday season. It also provides children with a recreational and educational space where they can interact with peers and enjoy a more enriching and enjoyable vacation.
Arico’s Mayor, Olivia Delgado, stated that “as promised last summer, it is crucial at this time to organise services like this to ensure families can balance their commitments and provide our children with a place where they can maintain their social connections. Additionally, through these activities, we ensure they have fun, engage in educational workshops, and activities that foster creativity during this stage of their development,” shared the councilor.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Mayor and councilor for Social Welfare and Education, Agustín Tejera, emphasised that “this year, in selecting the locations, we have taken into consideration the needs and preferences of families, gathered from around 200 pre-registrations received. We have expanded the number of available slots to 110, with an increased number of supervisors to 6 for each session. This step aims to enhance the quality of the diverse activities planned, which aligns with the direction we wish to uphold.” Finally, he added, “this year, we have upheld the tradition of offering complimentary camps, while implementing certain access criteria outlined in the terms available on the City Council’s online platform.”
