The Guía de Isora City Council, led by Óliver Afonso in the Sports Department, is emphasising its commitment to enhance, rejuvenate, and refurbish the municipality’s sports facilities. The council is close to finishing works on the Alcalá core installation, which will include a new basketball court, beach volleyball court, calisthenics area, and an expanded skate park.
The councilor also highlights the renovation of other areas, such as the municipal swimming pools and the pitches at the Aguadulce and Alcalá football fields. In addition, in conversations with this publication, he underscores the significance of introducing a new grant system for sports clubs and individual athletes.
According to him, the basketball court was the first project tackled by the council in this term within the scope of revitalising coastal sports areas.
Among the improvements made are the change in pavement surface, new court markings, and layout. The only remaining tasks are the installation of new baskets, and the mayor mentioned, “We expect everything to be completed by next week.”
Another enhancement currently underway is at the volleyball court, part of the sports area action plan in response to requests from the volleyball club that frequently uses the facility.
Moreover, the councilor of the area highlights the skate park expansion project and expressed regret over the encountered challenges: “We encountered a previous project submitted to the Tenerife Council, which was returned with a negative assessment. Hence, we devised a new plan considering the requirements of Costas for its approval.” It is anticipated that this project can be carried out by 2025, coinciding with the refurbishment of the municipal swimming pools and the aforementioned pitches.
Additionally, the mayor stresses the importance of the new grant registration process for clubs and individual athletes. The councilor noted that the introduction of this fresh support system was necessary as “we felt a reorganization was crucial. Initially, we set up a grant pool solely for football; another for other sports, and finally, a new one for individual athletes.”
