Based on the premise that “a community proud of its members is more likely to take better care of itself”, the project coordinated through the Department of Citizen Participation in collaboration with the Canarian Institute of Cultural Development of the Government of the Canary Islands, ‘Something Has My Neighbourhood’, returns to Puerto de la Cruz for another year.
For this third edition, one of the most idiosyncratic areas of the town has been chosen, such as La Ranilla and El Peñón, to rescue, pamper, and collect the stories that acknowledge the past and present of this port enclave.
According to the councillor David Hernández (ACP), “we wanted to continue the development of this project, which was started in the last term by our colleague Susan Hernández, as we recognise the undeniable value of the stories of the individuals who have transformed and sustained life in the port neighbourhoods, as well as the responsibility to recover and maintain historical memory through the digitisation of archives and narratives, and in line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.”

‘Something Has My Neighbourhood’, in this edition, will feature the participation of Canarian filmmaker Héctor Gardez and the storyteller from Puerto de la Cruz, Sira Librero, who will present the new stories in these areas at the end of June. The initiative combines community development, citizen participation, and video art to highlight the people and stories that give meaning to the neighbourhoods. After several interviews and meticulous fieldwork during May, filming will begin to bring the neighbourhood’s stories and narratives to the screen and the squares in a first-person perspective.
