SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 4th June (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife and the Rural Action Group (GAR Tenerife) have officially agreed to collaborate in enhancing the development of rural areas. This collaboration aims to coordinate efforts between the Primary Sector department and GAR, a non-profit organisation comprising fifty members, including 24 local public administrations (including the Cabildo itself), major agricultural professional associations, producer associations, women’s groups, youth groups, social development associations, environmental associations, companies, agricultural cooperatives, and other agricultural groups.
Present at the signing of the agreement were the vice president of the Cabildo, Lope Afonso, and the Primary Sector councillor, Valentín González. They noted that as part of this agreement, the Cabildo will contribute €450,000 until December 2027 to support expenses related to GAR Tenerife’s operations and staff. This funding falls under the Participatory Local Development Strategy outlined in intervention 7119 of the Rural Plan. The Cabildo will also provide technical assistance through the Agrarian Extension and Rural Development Agencies to ensure the successful implementation of the proposed strategy.
On the other hand, GAR Tenerife is dedicated to fostering a community-centric approach, empowering local communities to actively engage in developing their strategies. They aim to increase community involvement in resolving common challenges, enhance local governance, and establish a more democratic and participatory regional development model.
Additionally, GAR Tenerife will oversee the effective execution of the Local Development Strategy, initiating and managing innovative projects in rural areas that stimulate and enhance the quality of life for residents, as stated by the Cabildo.
This agreement builds upon the previous one signed in 2018, designating GAR Tenerife as a Local Action Group within the Canary Islands Rural Development Program 2014/2020.
This ongoing collaboration strengthens efforts directed towards the economic and social development of rural zones in Tenerife, leveraging Leader aid for Rural Development to enhance quality of life and create new employment opportunities in our countryside.
