Commencing tomorrow, Tuesday, 4th of June, until 12th June, a ‘Healthy Guagua’ will cruise around various districts in La Laguna to promote good eating habits among the children and young residents of the municipality. Sergio Eiroa, the Councilor for Youth, Education, and Drug Prevention at La Laguna City Council, describes it as a two-floored British bus that will make stops at different neighbourhoods and villages, “to instil the importance of a balanced diet, promote the consumption of fruits and vegetables, and inspire regular physical exercise from a young age, among other positive habits crucial for well-being and physical growth.”
The bus will kick off its journey tomorrow, Tuesday, at 9:30 a.m. at Tranvía de La Cuesta square, where it will be stationed until Wednesday, 5th June. Moving on, on Thursday, 6th June, it will head to Plaza de San Luis Gonzaga, in Taco. Following its schedule, on Tuesday and Wednesday, 11th and 12th June, it will be positioned at Plaza del Adelantado in La Laguna.
The municipal schools are encouraged by the authorities to arrange visits and engage in the various planned activities, completely complimentary, specially crafted for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-grade students. The plan is to accommodate around ten student groups per day, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:10 p.m., with sessions lasting between 20 to 30 minutes inside the bus.
“We bring a play-based learning experience closer to the students’ everyday environment to also relay this message to their families and the wider community,” highlighted Eiroa.
