SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 3 June (EUROPA PRESS TELEVISION) –
Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the leader of the PP, stated on Monday in the Canary Islands that Europe should “guarantee orderly migration” and has put forward the idea that individuals coming to work in the Union should make a “pledge to conform and uphold” the core values of Europeans. Additionally, he has unveiled a set of actions against illegal immigration, beginning with a “heightened presence of the European Guard at borders and coastlines on Spanish borders experiencing high migratory pressures.”
Furthermore, Feijóo has suggested “strengthening the battle against migrant smuggling with the assistance of Europe”, “accelerating the expulsion of individuals with criminal records” and “negotiating agreements with third countries to manage migratory movements and facilitate the return of irregular migrants.”
Speaking at a gathering in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Feijóo pointed out that in 2023 Spain “was the second country in the European Union to witness the biggest surge in illegal immigration,” with “82% more”, highlighting that in the Canary Islands, this figure is “alarming” due to the fact that “in the initial 5 months of 2024, the influx of illegal immigrants has risen by 375%.”
BELIEVES THE ISSUE “HAS WORSENED” UNDER SÁNCHEZ
“It is crystal clear that Sánchez has exacerbated the issue while others are merely criticising,” declared Feijóo, underlining that the PP is proposing measures in its electoral agenda for the European elections in response to the “grave challenge” posed by illegal immigration.
The president of the PP has emphasised that Europe is “a collaborative endeavour” and “must assure orderly migration.” “Hence, in this term, we will propose that individuals desiring to be part of the European Union initiative must make a commitment, a pledge to conform and uphold the fundamental principles of Europe, such as gender equality,” he stressed.
Emphasising that this “is the commitment” sought “from all individuals seeking to work in Europe,” he mentioned that individuals “opting for Europe to reside, work, and integrate will be welcomed and possess equal rights.” “However, those who choose Europe to perpetrate crimes and violate our principles have no place in the European Union,” she asserted.
