The PSOE in Tenerife will demand the withdrawal of the dependency decree proposed by the Cabildo during the next Monday’s session (10:00 am, Plenary Hall) due to the “frontal rejection by organizations and lack of participation”. This will be the last session for the socialist councillor Laura Castro, who will join Lola Padrón’s office at the Diputación del Común.
Castro cannot hold both positions simultaneously and must resign, as she announced earlier this week. It is still undecided who will replace her. Cayetano Silva is next in line, but cannot assume the position due to work reasons. It is most likely that Cristina Morales from the Güímar group will be appointed as the new councillor.
Her departure marks the fourth change in the group from the initial list prepared for the local elections on the 28M last year, where the PSOE obtained 11 councillors, led by Pedro Martín (1), with Castro occupying the eighth position. In February, Manuel Martínez (5) left for Zona Franca, leading to the return of Liskel Álvarez (16). Prior to this, the tenth-ranked Monica Ceballos resigned, replaced by the twelfth-ranked Candelaria de León, and Berta Pérez (2) stepped down, with Priscila de León (14) taking her place.
The motion concerning dependency will be defended by councillor Marián Franquet in response to “the lack of a participatory process” and “criticisms from the department’s own employees, professional bodies, and associations representing the interests of those affected”. The socialist representative highlights that “at a time when the implementation of the law in Canarias has shown its worst results due to the management carried out by the Coalición Canaria and Partido Popular government”.
She insists that the document “seeks to eliminate the long delays in dependency by establishing serious obstacles that could create a sense of helplessness and legal uncertainty”.

On the other hand, the Socialist Group in the Cabildo met the tram workers, who have been on strike since February, marking four months of ongoing conflict. Spokesperson Aarón Afonso and Marián Franquet held a meeting with the workforce of Metropolitano de Tenerife to demonstrate the group’s support for the workers’ demands, as there have been no significant advances in the negotiations. The staff is called to gather next Wednesday in Cabildo Square, in front of the Insular Palace, from 9:30 to 11:30 am.
