Tenerife is brimming with activities over the weekends, thanks to both public and private initiatives to maintain entertainment on the island. Traditions, cinema, and sports are the enticing options lined up for the next few days for you to enjoy some leisure time. Here are the planned activities for this weekend:
Cinema

TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes will be screening this weekend, at 7:00 pm, Las cuatro hijas (Les Filles d’Olfa, 2023) by Kaouther Ben Hania. The film, highly recommended by the ICAA of the Ministry of Culture for promoting gender equality, is an intimate journey overflowing with hope, rebellion, violence, intergenerational transmission, and sisterhood, challenging the foundations of our societies. It will be shown in the original Arabic version with Spanish subtitles.

Traditions

La Laguna hosts a showcase of traditional crafts and skills this weekend. The exhibit will open at the Camino Largo Castle and will be open for visits during the weekend from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm. The display will feature 17 craftsmen and craftswomen showcasing their artisanal creations and products. Specialties on display include floral patterns on cloth, doll making, leather goods, tailoring, jewellery, candle making, linen weaving, traditional costumes, as well as pottery, printing, enamelwork, traditional Canarian crafts, and Canarian fretwork.
In addition, attendees can participate in a variety of free workshops suitable for all ages, focusing on traditional games, Canary Island engravings Canarias, Canarian attire, stick fighting, Silbo Gomero (Gomeran whistling language), among others, to share the Canary Island traditions and customs with family. There will also be performances of various traditional dances by the folk group Princesa Iraya, among other socio-cultural activities.
Corpus Christi

The historic old town of La Laguna celebrates Corpus Christi this Sunday, where various groups participate in creating traditional carpets and decorating the streets along the route of the Holy procession. A total of 68 carpets will adorn the streets of the old town, with the addition of a large 75 metres long and 300 square metres carpet, prepared by the City Council from the Casa de los Capitanes to the Casa del Corregidor, on Obispo Rey Redondo street.

The weekend sports highlight comes from CD Tenerife, taking on Real Valladolid on Sunday in the final round of the league. The match is set for 5:30 pm at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López.
