A team called GranSatIV comprising of nine students from the Institute of Secondary Education Granadilla de Abona will represent Spain in the Space Engineer programme for a day on a European scale, taking place from June 17 to 19 at the European Centre for Space Research and Technology (Estec), where missions for the European Space Agency are designed. This is their prize as national winners of the CanSat challenge held in Murcia.
Nerea Risco Alonso, Carlos Cano Rivero, Saúl Guanche Oliva, Miguel Stiven Cárdenas Cosme, Samuel Fuentes González, Fayna Luis Cabrera, Aminata Fall, Almudena Rodríguez Cruz and Lucía Martín Gárate make up the GranSatIV team, with Professor Félix Jonay Mayoral as the project coordinator.
The GranSat IV team represented Canarias after winning the regional competition CanSat Canarias 2024, which took place in April in Santa María de Guía (Gran Canaria). 16 teams from all autonomous communities (except La Rioja and the autonomous cities, Ceuta and Melilla) participated in the national competition. Now, this group of students from Granadilla will travel to Noordwijk (Netherlands) to visit the facilities of the European Space Agency (ESA), where 2,500 aerospace engineers and scientists work. They will spend a day with this scientific community.
The Mayor of Granadilla de Abona, Jennifer Miranda, met with the nine students from IES Granadilla at a reception attended by the Education, Community Welfare and Education councillors, Celia Navil Trujillo, Adán García and Ángela Villalba, respectively.
