The municipalities of Buenavista del Norte, El Tanque, and Icod de los Vinos are collaborating with the Cabildo on the anonymous withdrawal campaign of phytosanitary products and waste. The initiative is driven by the Biodiversity Unit and aims, among other things, to minimize the risks of their impact on the environment and on individuals due to poor management. It is specifically aimed at farmers due to their key role in the area and their use for pest control.
The collection, carried out by an authorized waste manager, accepts products that are expired, those that have lost authorization, or those that, while still in usable condition, the farmer wants to dispose of responsibly.
The Department of Natural Environment, Sustainability, and Security and Emergencies will accept containers with residues of insecticides, herbicides, acaricides, nematicides, fungicides, bactericides, molluscicides, rodenticides, soil disinfectants, repellents, or attractants.
The Biodiversity Unit has scheduled four collection dates: June 13 at number 24 Avenida Príncipes de España in El Tanque; at the Los Pedregales Visitor Center in Buenavista del Norte on June 20; on the 27th, at the Vistas de Icod Horticultural Cooperative Society, and in Buenavista del Norte it will be on July 4, at Daute Flor. All four locations will collect from 09:00 to 15:00.

Island councillor Blanca Pérez emphasizes that “we are dealing with a matter of public health and an impact on the environment. The campaign has no other purpose than to be a tool to preserve the natural environment and help the sector dispose of these poisons free of charge and anonymously.”
