The Board of Directors of the Cabildo de Tenerife has granted approval today to a sum of €5.7 million in scholarships for over 6,000 students pursuing university education, artistic studies, Vocational Training, and those with special educational needs.
This was disclosed during a press briefing by Tenerife’s president, Rosa Dávila, who specifically highlighted the decision to advance the deadlines by almost four months in order to “alleviate” the financial burdens on families supporting students.
The scholarships are divided into four categories, with €4 million allocated for university studies – encompassing general universities, undergraduates, master’s, and doctorate programs – along with additional funds for the Erasmus programme and transportation assistance; €1.2 million for students with special educational needs, and €250,000 each for Vocational Training and artistic studies.
The period for submitting applications will commence upon publication in the Official Gazette of the Province in July and will conclude on the 31st of October, 2024.
Additionally, on this Wednesday, the Council has also approved the budget for the enhancement of TF-21, the road connecting La Orotava with the Teide National Park, amounting to €38.7 million, of which the Cabildo contributes €34 million and the remainder is provided by the City Council through an agreement.
The construction works are expected to span around two years, although the process of land expropriation is still pending completion.
Dávila has expressed her anticipation for “a significant improvement” not only in terms of road safety but also in connectivity, amenities, and foot traffic in densely populated neighbourhoods such as Aguamansa or Pinolere.
