On Wednesday, the Cabildo of Tenerife proudly presented the ‘II Black Canary Pig Fair’, a vibrant event taking place this weekend at the picturesque Pinolere Museum and Ethnographic Park in the captivating municipality of La Orotava, from 10:00 to 19:00.
The presentation ceremony was graced by the esteemed Councilor for the Primary Sector of the Cabildo, Valentín González, the insightful general director of Livestock of the Government of the Canary Islands, Andrés Díaz Matoso; the dedicated councilor of the La Orotava City Council, Yurena Luis Díaz, the esteemed president of the Canary Black Pig Association, Jesús García, and the proficient manager of the Pinolere Cultural Association, Jesús García.
This fair promises a delightful array of workshops, talks, exhibitions, and tastings centred around the Canarian black pig, in addition to showcasing local gastronomy and traditional sports, as detailed in a statement by the Cabildo.
González emphasized that “this event has become a fixture in the island’s calendar, aiming to celebrate indigenous breeds, thanks to collaborative efforts across administrations and in close partnership with groups dedicated to the Canarian black pig.”
He further elaborated that “over the weekend, visitors can indulge in a diverse and engaging program of activities, with a strong focus on promoting local products.”
González concluded by affirming that “backing these groups and associations that uphold traditions is a means to encourage the consumption of local goods and, in turn, show support for the hard work of Tenerife’s farmers.”
