The Tenerife Island Council has approved over €12 million for 15 municipalities on the island to acquire completed or pending completion homes, which will be made available to the people of Tenerife for social rental.
These budget items are part of the island’s Active Housing 2024 programme, an economic contribution that complements the funding already provided by the town councils for these actions, as stated by the island corporation in a press release.
The Council points out that, for now, the initiative involves 227 homes being made available, benefiting nearly 1,000 residents of Tenerife.
In this process, priority has been given to municipal proposals that manage to offer housing in the rental market in the shortest possible time, which is why the amounts have been distributed into three categories: home purchase, home purchase with completion works, and home construction.
Furthermore, the towns buying homes and receiving €1,855,626 are: San Miguel for 23 houses, La Guancha for 5, and Arico for 3.
For the acquisition of homes with completion works, with a total of €5,551,249, there are Santa Úrsula for 26 properties, Santa Cruz de Tenerife for 25, Güímar for 20, Buenavista del Norte and Granadilla de Abona for 15 each, and El Tanque for 6.
On the other hand, for home construction with a total amount of €5,120,668, there are San Cristóbal de La Laguna with 29 buildings, La Matanza with 24, La Orotava with 20, El Sauzal, and Santiago del Teide with 8 each, and Los Silos with 2.
The Council reminds that the beneficiary town councils are committed, either directly or through the transfer to the Canarian Institute of Housing, to manage the homes for rental purposes.
